Hi everyone. Can you believe that the summer is almost over. I don't know where the time has gone. So it's time to start thinking of the different programs we would like to offer. -We will continue with our Tuesday playgroups each week. -We have someone who is going to do a story time/craft class -My friend and I (I am a social worker and she is a Speech Language Pathologist) are going to be doing a playgroup type class in the fall -We will be offering STEM classes again -We will be offering Art classes We need some more classes and volunteers: -I need someone who is willing to run a music class -I need two people to take over the monthly craft classes because our wonderful volunteers children have aged out -Julia can you still do the Neighborhood Tours?? I will also periodically send out emails to help with things such as our annual Halloween, Holiday and Valentines Day Parties. And I am very very willing to hear of any suggestions you guys have for other classes. Just remember that we need volunteers to run the classes. I will help to provide the space and will reimburse you for any expenses you incur as part of the class. This is such a wonderful organization and I have been very blessed with all the people who have helped make this as successful as it is. Please help me continue to make this one a wonderful year as well!!
Just a reminder, the SCDC is sponsoring a playdate at the playgrounds at each of the schools this Thursday at 5pm (Beal, Spring, Coolidge, Paton and Floral) for kids entering Kindergarten and 1st grade. This is a great way for you and your child to meet other kids who will be entering Kindergarten and 1st grade at their school. I have a point person who will be at each school just to have a representative from SCDC there. They will be wearing a name tag so you will know who they are. Just some information: There is Little League going on at the Coolidge School so parking will be tight. At Paton the camp lets out at 5pm so just be aware of that when you are going there. Try not to get there early.
What: Tour the Shrewsbury Post Office When: Tuesday, April 29 at 3:30p.m. Where: Shrewsbury post office at 43 Maple Ave. (near the center of town; park in the lot and come right into the main entrance) R.S.V.P. to: email@example.com (maximum of 10 children allowed since the post office is small) The tour will include a mail truck, walk through the back of the office, hear about retail products, write a letter and mail it home, learn about stamp processing, and get a coloring book. The tour is expected to last about 20 minutes.
Our hugely popular STEM class will be returning for one last session before summer. In case you are unfamiliar STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering and Math and is taught by the incredible Barbara Jorda, who started her own company called STEM Beginnings. She is a former SCDC mom and a teacher and all the children love her. This class is popular and fills up fast. Here are options for the class. We are offering three classes. Classes for the 3 to 5 year olds will be Mondays from 10am to 11am and Mondays from 11:15am to 12:15pm. Class for the Kindergarten through 2nd grade kids is on Tuesdays from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. The classes for 3 to 5 year olds is a parent/child class. For the first time we will allow parent drop off for the Kindergarten through 2nd grade as long as parents sign a waiver of liability. Please email me if you are interested in the class. The cost for the 6 week session is $60. The Monday classes begin on May 5th and the Tuesday class begins on May 13th.
We are excited to offer an art class by one of our moms who has taken numerous art classes over the last several years. This class will be 6 weeks long and is targeted for children ages 5 and older. The class will be held on Fridays starting May 2nd from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. We plan to allow parents to drop off their children as long as you sign a waiver of liability. The class will be held at the home of the teacher Anu in Shrewsbury and the address will be given when you contact her for the class. The cost of the class is $40 for the entire 6 week session and all materials will be provided. The format of the class is as follows: This Art lesson is filled with a cartload of creativity. Kids get opportunity to express their own world of imagination through the Art. This helps kids, not only with Art and colors but to think in detail what they feel, help with hand writing and helps them to cool down. Each class will be a different art form and here is each weeks class broken down: 1.Acrylic landscapes Painting 2.Mosaics art 3.Pastel Painting 4.Flower making with Fabric 5.Oil painting on clay pot. 6.Glass painting with aluminium foil. If you would like to register for the class please contact Anu at firstname.lastname@example.org
